The Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation

Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation (FFC) was founded in 1997 with the aim of informing about cystic fibrosis, the most common serious genetic disease in Italy and promoting advanced research projects to improve the duration and quality of life of patients and defeat this disease.

SUNFLOWER PROJECT

To say that the Sunflower is so important to us would be an understatement because it is much more than that and, if there was an expression to describe the importance it has for us, we will be happy to shout it.

The Sunflower touches us from within because cystic fibrosis has struck within our family and this has made us very sensitive towards it.

It emotionally touches the heart of any person, but when you suffer from it or a loved one suffers from it, everything is more amplified. For this reason we have created this project, to increase awareness and knowledge about the disease and to raise funds to donate to FFC Research, in the hope that a definitive cure will be found for all people with cystic fibrosis.

The collection will be made through the sale of our items on our site: for each bottle purchased, approximately 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation – Onlus.

We do it for Lucia and for all those who, like her, have lived with cystic fibrosis from birth.

What do you say? Would you like to join us and help the FFC Search?

The Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation

Recognized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) as a promoter of scientific research on cystic fibrosis, it makes use of a network of 1,000 researchers and the work of over 140 Delegations and Support Groups distributed in all the Italian regions, with 10,000 volunteers who raise funds and provide information on the disease.

Since 2002, FFC has invested 32 million euros in 417 research projects. For more information: fibrosicisticaricerca.it.

Cystic fibrosis is a disease present from birth due to a mutation in the CFTR gene. Those born sick have inherited a copy of the mutated gene from their father and mother. Both parents are, almost always without knowing it, healthy carriers of a copy of this gene, which normally determines the synthesis of a protein, called CFTR, responsible for the regular functioning of the secretions of many organs.

This protein works little or not at all in those born with the double copy of the mutated gene. In Italy there is one healthy carrier for about every 30 people. A couple of two healthy carriers has a 1 in 4 chance of having a sick child with each pregnancy. The disease alters the secretions of many organs, contributing to their deterioration.

The bronchus and lungs suffer the greatest damage: inside them the mucus tends to stagnate, generating infection and inflammation that over time can cause respiratory failure. For this reason, the disease was once known as “mucoviscidosis”.

The organisation of care and the improvement of therapies have led to a significant evolution of the disease: if in the 1950s a child with cystic fibrosis rarely reached school age, today there are more adults than sick children, and statistics they report an average life expectancy that exceeds 40 years with forecasts that are constantly improving.

It is developed within one of the strategic activities of our company, which has chosen to support the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation – Onlus (FFC).

The FFC mission

Finding "A cure for everyone"

Thanks to the progress of research, in recent years some drugs have come and are about to be available that can mark a significant step forward towards the prospect of stopping cystic fibrosis in the bud and making the treatments already available more and more effective. for all the sick.
